Guest Teacher Program
You are invited onto the path of exploring Loving Kindness and Compassion. Practicing yoga and meditation – especially in a retreat setting – is a radical act of self-care. Loving kindness is the natural expression of our heart. It is the foundation of our practice and reminds us to ‘befriend’ ourselves, and all experiences and circumstances, whether we actually like it or not. Through practicing Loving Kindness we are inevitably led to Compassion; the desire to act to alleviate the suffering of others. This way, our personal and collective integrity, and responsibility for the Earth is encouraged. Our practice becomes more meaningful. When we create changes in ourselves we change the world.
This Retreat is for serious practitioners and yoga teachers who enjoy the practice of yin yoga as a doorway into mindfulness meditation and Buddhist practices. The retreat format of this program, which includes two days of silence, will lead to a deeper understanding and a practice that is solidly rooted within.
The program will start on Saturday November 2, 2024 at 7:30 pm
Marije E. Paternotte (pronounce: “Mariah”) was born and raised in Amsterdam where she studied law and worked as a corporate attorney. After joining a yoga retreat in Bali life led her to the United States where she took her first yoga teacher training. She currently lives in a small beach town in New Jersey with her husband and two cats, and teaches online as well as workshops, retreats and teacher trainings around the world.
Marije teaches Insight Yoga as developed by Sarah and Ty Powers, which interweaves Yoga, Buddhism, Taoism, and Transpersonal psychology into an integrated practice to enliven the body, heart, and mind. Through her training to be a professional ballet dancer when she was young, her innate body awareness, self-study and several sustained injuries, Marije has developed a keen eye for precise and safe alignment of yoga postures. Her teaching style is understated and compassionate, with a focus on mindfulness. She has the ability to present complex concepts, and an in-depth knowledge of yogic anatomy and philosophy, in a simple and approachable way.
Marije encourages her students to practice from a foundation of loving kindness, and to be mindful in everything they do, cultivating non-judgmental self-awareness that leads to inner peace, genuine happiness, and the discovery of who they truly are.
